What Are Dues?arrow-down

Dues are the lifeblood of any Union. They’re how we fund the work that keeps Teamsters Local 399 strong, active, and fighting for what all members deserve. Dues are paid by all active members and when we pay our dues, we’re investing in our collective power—strengthening our ability to negotiate better wages, benefits, and working conditions for everyone. Every dollar goes toward supporting the causes and services that protect our rights in and out of the workplace.

What is a Good Standing Status? How Do I Know if I am On One?arrow-down

A member is considered in good standing if they are paid through the current quarter of dues, with no outstanding initiation, reinitiation, late fees, or other fees owed. Per the Bylaws, a member shall lose their good standing membership in the organization by acceptance of a withdrawal card, by suspension or expulsion, or by nonpayment of dues on or before the last business day of the current month. If you are unsure of your standing, please contact the Front Office at 818-985-7374 or email office@ht399.org.

Can I Set-Up An Automatic Payment Plan?arrow-down

Yes! Please click [here] to set up a Quarterly Recurring Payment plan. Recurring plans automatically charge a full quarter dues payment on the 1st of the first month of each quarter (January, April, July, and October).

Upon transaction, you will receive a receipt and confirmation that your payment went through. One week prior to your card being charged, you will get a courtesy email reminder that you have an upcoming auto payment.

What Happens If My Recurring Payment Plan Gets Declined? arrow-down

The system will send you an automated email letting you know that your card has declined. With our new payment processor system, you can now manage your account to update your card information on your own time without needing to contact the Union Hall. Should your card declined, the system will continue to send you periodic reminders until the card on file is updated an payment is received. If no payment is received within the month dues are due, you will still be responsible for late fees and after 90 days, your account will be suspended. Please see SUSPENSION FAQ for more information.

Can I Pay My Dues One Month At A Time Instead Of Quarterly? arrow-down

No. Per the Local 399 Bylaws, dues for Local 399 shall be paid Quarterly in the months of January, April, July and October. The only members who pay dues on a monthly basis are White Paper Agreements under check-off in which the Employer directly pays the dues to the local from an auto-deduction from the member’s paycheck.

I Didn’t Work This Month. Do I Still Owe Dues?arrow-down

Yes. Dues are owed for members on an active status, regardless of whether a member has worked or not.

If you are anticipating going a month or more without Local 399 work, you may want to consider taking an HONORABLE WITHDRAWAL to pause your dues payments. Please see the WITHDRAWAL FAQ for more information about taking a withdrawal and what should be understood about pausing your account.

What Happens If I Forget To Pay My Dues? arrow-down

Dues are your responsibility as an active union member. If you forget to pay in the months of January, April, July and October, you will be subjected to fines and late fees. After 90 days without payment, your account will be SUSPENDED, which results in additional reinitiation fees. Please see the SUSPENSION FAQ for more information.

Is The Union Required To Notify Me That My Dues Are Owed?arrow-down

While we make our best effort to help remind members of outstanding dues payments owed with targeted emails, social media reminders and more, any dues reminders are a courtesy provided to our members and the responsibility still stands solely with each member. We recommend utilizing our Local 399 recurring payment plan system to help ensure your dues are paid consistently on a Quarterly basis.

What Courtesy Reminders Might I Receive From the Local? arrow-down

Typically, delinquent members receive targeted email reminders. Starting in 2025, should you wait to pay until the last month of the quarter to pay, you will receive a reminder postcard that you are at risk of suspension. If you are suspended, you will receive a certified letter stating your balance owed. Please call the Front Office at 818-985-7374 if you think you are not receiving notifications.

Can The Local 399 Executive Board Waive My Dues Or Fees? arrow-down

While the Local 399 Executive Board has the power to waive fines and fees, it is important to share that the Executive Board rarely grants waivers for dues or fees. The circumstances must be extreme, extenuating, and unique to you. Length of union membership, previous good standing, and other historical factors are not considered. We encourage members to reach out to our team with any questions or concerns—our goal is to support you in staying active and engaged with Teamsters Local 399.
